Future Job

One of my earliest memories is my mother taking me to her work when I was about seven years old. She worked as a labor and delivery nurse at a local hospital and from that point on, I always had a fascination with healthcare. Both of my parents work as nurses, but father started out as a corpsman in the Navy before he transitioned to working in a civilian hospital. Another reason that has pushed me to become a nurse is seeing the impact they have on people. From my own experience and observation of other, I have seen how much of an impact a nurse can make on a person’s life. The profession of nursing requires many duties including caring for a patient’s physical and mental well-being, administering medication, coordinating care with other professionals, and much more  depending on the specialization.  Skills that are required for nursing include knowledge about diseases and medicines, the ability to work in a team, the ability to adapt and be flexible, patience, and empathy....

Our news headlines are filled with controversial topics like police who abuse their power and a racist president . Although these articles are what get the most views from readers, they should not be what defines us as Americans. If I were to define what an American is, I would say it is a person who takes advantage of and acknowledges the powers and freedoms that we are granted in this great nation. This is an image of my parents and I after hiking to the end of Ceder Creek Falls about a year ago. This hike was also in the same month, two years prior, that I was diagnosed with Idiopathic Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA). For those that are unaware, RA is an autoimmune disease in which the body attacks itself causing chronic inflammation especially in the major joints. The typical onset of this condition ranges from thirty to sixty years old, so it definitely came as a surprise when the doctors informed me of my diagnosis. Having to deal with this condition forced me to withdraw from sports and other physical activities which was very disheartening for me. Growing up, I always enjoyed playing sports like football and basketball, along with other activities like hiking and snowboarding. The thought of losing the ability to do what I enjoyed the most was a tough pill to swallow. Luckily for me, we tried several different medication and found success in one that reduced the symptoms of my...
